The Harbor Net Tender patch, with
a cartoon octopus on a submanne weanne
a sailor's has. Small enough to be a sleeve
paich, this may also have seen use as on
os. harbor nets had the mission of
antisubmanne intrusion and anti-torpedo
defense Lester Tucker reportsthree differ-
ent sizes of this parch, and believes that
they were made for civilian personnel at
Net Depots or facilities and never meant 10
be wom by the enlisted men of the Navy.
The illustrated patch does not match most
of the patches I ve seen worn by contract ol
civilian employees in that it issmall. much
like the known US distinguishing marks
above. and its wool consiruction would not
have lent itself to work uniform applica-
ton (10). It goes to reason that some were
purchased at a Army-Nasy stere and worn
unotficially by sailors or locally autho-rized. As with the block letter CB parch
and the Mosquito Boat patch, the border
was in a twisted rope pater. All of the SSI
were abolished by the US on January 17,
1947
